FAQs
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a highly effective, holistic medical therapy that supports the body’s natural ability to heal. It strengthens immunity, enhances both physical and emotional well-being, and optimizes overall body function. When combined with herbal medicine, it provides a safe, gentle, and drug-free approach for addressing a wide range of health concerns and promoting long-term wellness.
How should I prepare?
For your acupuncture treatment, we recommend wearing comfortable clothing and avoiding heavy meals or caffeine beforehand. These simple preparations help you relax and support the best therapeutic results. Acupuncture also requires no downtime, allowing you to return to your normal routine immediately after treatment without discomfort.
Is acupuncture painful?
Most acupuncture points do not cause discomfort during needling, as the needles are extremely thin and gently inserted. Some areas of the body are naturally more sensitive, and patients may feel a brief, mild sensation as the needle enters. Overall, the needles are often barely felt, allowing for a calm and relaxing treatment experience.
Are sessions safe?
Yes, acupuncture is considered a very safe form of medical treatment. We use sterile, single-use needles and follow strict hygiene and safety protocols. Your comfort and well-being are always our highest priority.
Do I need a referral?
Most insurance plans now include acupuncture benefits, and patients typically do not need pre-authorization or a referral to begin treatment. Only certain HMO plans, Personal Injury (PI) cases, or Workers’ Compensation claims require a referral from your primary care physician or authorization from the case adjuster. Please feel free to contact our office for detailed information and assistance with verifying your coverage.
Are there any side effects?
Acupuncture is very safe. Most people have no side effects, but some may experience mild, temporary reactions such as slight soreness, small bruising, lightheadedness, or brief fatigue. Serious side effects are extremely rare when performed by a licensed practitioner.
